Stretches To Do While Sitting At Your Desk

How often do you give your body a break and stretch while at the office? If the answer is rarely, it’s time to change things up.

Sitting still for hours can do more harm to your physical health than you could imagine.

Doing light exercises while at work right at your desk can save you from many pains that may show up at later stage in your life.

Performing these 5 stretches can help ease the strain in your muscles, back, shoulders, and neck:

Shoulder Stretch

• Pull your left elbow to your chest until you feel your shoulder lightly stretching

• Repeat with your right elbow

Neck Stretch

• Keep your back straight and feet flat on the ground

• Release the tension and breathe in and out a few times

• Tilt your head upwards, then roll it forward towards your shoulder, slowing lowering your chin to your chest and finally to the other side in a clockwise motion

• Repeat anti-clockwise

Chest Stretch

• Interlace your fingers upwards or backwards and stretch as far as possible

• Lower your chin to chest

• Hold this position for 8-10 breaths

Do these stretches regularly and make sure that you’re sitting comfortably on your chair. Take a five minute break every hour while at your desk to stretch.

If you have pain in your back, neck or shoulders, you should consult with an orthopaedic specialist immediately.
